This book was conceived in a coach travelling between Bristol and Bath,and the first cell divisions occurred in the Regency Pump Room. Implantation of the devloping morula took place in the Offices of Heinemann Medical Books, then in Lndon, and the pregnancy was subsequently confirmed. THe gestation proved to be much longer than originally antiipated. About the length of two elephant,s pregnancies, and a period we will certaintly never forget! The physical Stresses-writer's cramp, aching bottoms and backs-have been great,but in no way did they approach the psychological and emotional traumas to ourselves and our nearest and dearst. We have used every know coping strategy and invented several more to cope whit the labour necessary to give birth. Now in the postpartum period, we are, like all new Mothers,relived but apprehensive as to how our offspring will be received. We very much hope that it will prove to be a useful and valued contributtion to society. |
