We also didn't ezpect that there would be so much to update. But the evidence-based practice in the 10 years or more since the first edition,and so many more changes were required than originally anticipated. Much of the underlyng sciences in Chapter 2 and the imaging in Chapter 3 required updating,but not major revision, although we included a new and exciting section by Kim Bennell and Karim Khan on the application to physiotherapy practice of the research into bone density. Chapter 4, Principles of examination and measurement,required a new section. The accuracy of diagnostic tests,because there is a wealth of information now available including,for example,likelihood ratios of various tests. This information has then been applied in Chapter 5 and 6, where information about diagnosing serious pathology has inculed presentation of data in the form of likelihood rations. Chapter 5 isquite different from the fisrt edition, and now presents those questionnaires that are commonly used to measure pain and disability,accuracy of diagnosis of pathology,identifiction of yelow flags (i.e.indicators of poor prognosis)and cognitive factors. |
