| Abstract/Notes |
The book is in two parts. Part one opens with an introductionto cognitive-behavioural therapy allowing the reader to become familiar with key concepts. There follows the application of the cognitive-behavioural interventions within the disclipine specific and Interdisclipnary context. Case studies are used are used to illustrate these models. The biomedical links between cognitions and behaviour are explored in recognition that mental processes are only made possible by the 'hardware' of the nervous system. The importance of this section is to facilitate a wider understanding of the complexities of the interaction between the brain, the body, beliefs, emotions and behaviour. Fart two is more practical. It focuses on how cognitive-behavioural interventions are applied to specific problems or disorder. The evidence base for the application of cognitive-behavioural intervntions is refrred to in each chapter. The evidence base is better developed in some areas compared to others. In each of thee more applied chapters,we have tried to illustrate the appliction of inteventons by case studies or case vignettes. These examples have been created from clinical experience rther than being identified with one particular individual. The contributing authors come from a variety of disciplines. This,in some way, illustrates the broad applicability of cogniitive-behvioural interventions. We believe that anyone who works in a health context can benefit from readingthis book,as it will develop ideas and understanding of how to apply cognitive-behavioural interventions. |
