| Abstract/Notes |
The initial printing Of A Manual Neurosurgery contained only nine chapters. The original material has now been revised, broght up-to-date,and supplemented with four new chapters. In addition,we have liberally illustrated the manual so that a student, once familiar with its information, mayleaf through the book and recall many of the major points from the illustrations. Only our reares will be able to inform us as towhether this objective has been accomplished. The scope of this manual has been to provide a general overview of neurosurgery, which might provide the student or non-surgical pracctitioner with a general knowledge of the capailities of this specialzed area of practice. Because the manual was initially prepared for use by undergraduate medical students who were expected to acquire a basic knowledgeof the capabilities of treating lesions of the nervous system, two teaching aidswere included in the original printing: 1) a bibliography designed primarily to provide refrences for supplemental reading, and 2) questions at the end of each chapter designed to review material presented or to stimulate the student to further investigate the subject matter. The same format has been retaine for this publication. In addition, and in response to requests of or students,an appendix has been added in which answers to the questions are provided. This material presented in this manualalso may be of valueto the busy physician rendering primary care when he needs a quick reference to pepare himself for advising a patient or his family when the patient is being considered for neurosurgical referal. Having read the manual,he may be better prepared to discuss with the patient what he has to look forward to in the way of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and the potential result. |
