Adolescence is a significant transition period from childhood to adulthood, often
posing risks that can significantly impact the future lives of young people. Given the concerning
situation of adolescent reproductive health and the high number of related problems occurring
today, knowledge about reproductive health is of utmost importance. One effective method to
enhance adolescents' knowledge and attitudes is through health education on reproductive
health. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of health education provided
by peer groups compared to healthcare workers on adolescent girls' knowledge and attitudes
regarding reproductive health at SMK Mandalahayu Bekasi in 2024. Method: The study
employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental research design using a pretestposttest
control group design. The study was conducted at SMK Mandalahayu Bekasi. The
sample size was determined using the hypothesis testing formula for the difference of two
means, and samples were selected using simple random sampling, resulting in 45 respondents
for each group. Data were analyzed using non-parametric tests, including the Wilcoxon signed
rank and Mann-Whitney tests. Instruments used in the study included questionnaires,
PowerPoint presentations, and video media. Results: The study revealed a significant
difference in the mean knowledge scores between the peer group and the healthcare worker
group, with the peer group scoring 21.00 and the healthcare worker group scoring 19.50. The
attitude scores were 21.50 for the peer group and 21.00 for the healthcare worker group. The
Wilcoxon signed rank test showed a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant difference
between the knowledge scores of the respondents who received interventions from peer groups
and those who received them from healthcare workers. Conclusion: In conclusion, both peer
group methods and education from healthcare workers were proven effective in improving
adolescents' knowledge and attitudes regarding reproductive health (p=0.000). Each method
has its own advantages and disadvantages, providing a definitive answer to the research
question and valuable insights for future research and practice in this field.
